Who is Twin Cities Greenways? We are a nonprofit organization working to build momentum for the concept of new Greenways. We have been meeting with community groups, elected officials, and public agency staff to promote the concept and get input since Summer 2008. So far, the response we’ve gotten has been incredibly positive. We were awarded our first funding in the Spring of 2009, and have applications pending to support a broader planning effort. We hold our tax exempt 501(c)(3) status through our fiscal sponsor, the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota.
The success of our trails network, and the Midtown Greenway in particular, have created strong demand for more high-quality trails throughout the Twin Cities. There are synergies between the Midtown Greenway Coalition (MGC) and Twin Cities Greenways. Three of our board members are also board members with MGC, and MGC staff have provided helpful advice to our group along the way. We are inspired by the tireless efforts of the many people who worked since 1992 to make the Midtown Greenway a reality.
At this point we should also thank the many folks who have given us advice and shared insights as we’ve gotten started. The list is too long to name everyone, but we want to thank especially the City of Minneapolis, the City of Saint Paul, Hennepin County, and the State of Minnesota, whose staff and elected officials have graciously shown us an open door and provided valuable guidance.
